A Comprehensive Review on the Nucleate/Convective Boiling of Low-GWP Refrigerants: Alternatives to HFC Refrigerants

نویسندگان

چکیده

This review presents the nucleate/convective boiling performance for a variety of important low global warming potential (LGWP) alternatives to commonly used high-global (GWP) refrigerants (such as R-134a, R404A, and R-410A, etc.). Efforts are stressed on assessment their evaporation pressure drop heat transfer coefficient (HTC) characteristics. These include R-1234ze(Z), R-1234ze(E), R-1233zd (E), R-1234yf, R-513A. The authors investigated thermo-fluid properties within outside tube, mini-channel, micro-fin plate exchanger. investigation numerical, experimental, simulated results revealed that HTC characteristics were dependent variables. factors working fluid’s thermodynamics transport properties, refrigerant’s mass flux, saturation temperature, vapor quality, conditions flow patterns, orientation heating surface, geometry (shape, size, surface area smooth/enhanced) surface. An expanded LGWP refrigerants, surfaces, database is needed. Mechanistic models may assist. can optimize boiling, anticipate transfer, develop high-performance geometries.

HFC & HC Blends as Refrigerants

The blends formed mixing hydrofluorocarbons (HFC) and hydrocarbons (HC) can be classified as semi-natural refrigerants since, by optimizing the composition, it is in principle possible to adapt basic features such as GWP, TEWI and flammability to the industrial and environmental requirements. However, the energetic efficiency must be competitive with the traditional refrigerants. To evaluate th...

Thermal Decomposition of Lower-GWP Refrigerants

The use of chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) and hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs) has been widely restricted. They have been replaced with hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) in order to protect the ozone layer. However, the leakage of refrigerant into air from active or end-of-life air conditioners has been a serious environmental issue owing to the high global warming potential (GWP) of HFCs. It has therefore...

Assuring Reliability of Compressors Using HFC Refrigerants

In Japan, the refrigerant used in room air-conditioners has been changed from HCFC-22 (R-22) to R-410A, a blend of HFC-32 and HFC-125 (50/50 vt%), in order to protect the ozone layer. Generally, the miscibility between the refrigerant and refrigeration oil must be assured, because the oil needs to return to the compressor from the refrigeration cycle and lubricate the sliding parts. Alternative...

New High Performance, Low GWP Refrigerants for Stationary AC and Refrigeration

In response to concerns about global climate change, and in consideration of probable legislation that may impact the production and use of refrigerants with high global warming potential, a set of new refrigerant candidates has been developed for evaluation. Some candidates are designed for stationary air conditioning in residential and light commercial end uses. Other refrigerant candidates w...
